  We had dinner here after a walk in the Peak District. The food was pretty good: my boyfriend liked his pie and my lamb was really nice (although the lamb and risotto combo was a little weird but I liked it). The food was alright priced: Maybe a couple of quid too expensive. It had a good atmosphere, plenty of parking and the toilets were good. Only problem was service was slow. I don't know whether they were prepping for reservations later or we just chose food that takes a while to cook but we came in quite early and it took a long time for our food to come out. I'd say probably over 45 mins which is a bit ridiculous given that when we sat down we were two of four people in the restaurant area. Other than that it was nice. I'd probably go back again.

  Very expensive, but the food just doesn't measure up.
  We were really excited when we saw the menu, because it offers some unusual choices. But the "game pie with quail" should've really been "quail with mini game pie", it was so disappointingly small. The bread beer was weak and flavourless.
  I had the steak and ale pie, which was tasty enough, but a little difficult to eat as the gravy soaks through the silly chip basket and napkin thing.
  It feels a bit like this pub is trying too hard - rather than doing the "gastro-pub" thing well, or being a posh restaurant, it's sitting in the middle, and it's not the best dining experience.
  From what I've seen, the burger looks good, and the staff were polite. But the atmosphere in the other pubs in Hope that I went to were nicer.

  Visited this place after a long walk in the pouring rain. We were welcomed in wearing our wet clothes and muddy boots and were offered bin liners to sit on :)
  
  Staff were friendly, table service provided and we enjoyed a nice pot of tea and some cake. Just what was needed to warm us back up.

  Great service, friendly staff, good food and nice comfortable surroundings. Were seated straight away at a busy time. Only suggestion would be to add another 2-3 simple classic dishes to the menu (e.g. scampi and chips, and surf and turf).
